It’s ‘fill the boot’ time in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Williams Lake Fire and Rescue team kicked off their annual ‘boot drive’ this week.

These local heroes help generate funds while raising awareness about neuromuscular disorders and the need for continuing support for Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s programs and services. “We’re proud to be carrying on the tradition of fundraising on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy that started in 1973,” said Williams Lake Fire Department’s new Fire Chief, Erick Peterson.

We spoke with rookie members, Chris and Joel while they were at Safeway Saturday afternoon. They were all smiles, and said even the smallest donations are appreciated, because they all add up.

The money raised in Williams Lake will be donated to improve the quality of life for people living with the disease by purchasing equipment, providing support services, and funding research to, ultimately, find a cure.  “Our two day total for the campaign so far this year, is a little over $10,000,” Chief Peterson smiled.

Next Friday between 4-9 pm members of the fire department will be outside various locations around Williams Lake.  If you see the big yellow boot, stop by and say hello to them.
