Removing wildfire fuels with planned burns

100 MILE HOUSE —  BC Wildfire Service will be conducting some planned burns in an area known as Ranchettes over the next three weeks.

The Cariboo Fire Centre crews will be burning piles as a part of an ongoing fuel mitigation project. This project was initiated to reduce the wildfire risk in the area. By removing the fuels that have built up over the years, the area will have less fuel to burn and will burn with less intensity.  Residents near 100 Mile House might see some smoke in an area.

Anyone who lights a Category 2 or Category 3 open fire must comply with BC’s air quality control legislation. The legislation requires individuals to check local venting prior to lighting a fire and ensure that conditions are favorable for burning. If conditions are rated ‘poor’ or ‘fair’ in their area, open burning is restricted.  Local venting conditions can be obtained by calling 1 888 281-2992 or visiting: http://ow.ly/76gW30lRlNN.
