VERNON, B.C. — Icy roads were a factor in a crash south of Vernon that led to an injured person being airlifted to hospital.

RCMP say a vehicle hit black ice on Commonage Road around 8 this morning, causing it to go into a ditch.

Another vehicle hit the same patch of ice a few minutes later, causing it to go into the ditch where it hit a Good Samaritan helping out at the scene and the driver of the first vehicle.

“Both the driver and good Samaritan were out of their vehicles at the time, when the second vehicle hit black ice, causing it to strike both who were standing roadside,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “The second vehicle clipped the Samaritan, causing only minor injury, however it struck the driver of the first vehicle sending them to hospital via air ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.”
