Zary’s hat trick sparks Blazers to a 6-1 win over Victoria

KAMLOOPS — Connor Zary scored a hat trick and Dylan Ferguson made 36 saves as the Kamloops Blazers got scoring and a much need win, blasting the Victoria Royals 6-1.

After scoring only three goals in the previous three games, the Blazers took a 4-0 lead in the first period.

Zary opened the scoring with a shorthanded breakaway goal and later in the first made it 2-0 at even strength.

Zane Franklin and Brodi Stuart then scored in the final minute and 12 seconds of the first.

The Royals scored the only goal of the second on a tip in by Phillip Schultz on the power play.

That was the only one to beat Dylan Ferguson on 37 shots.

The Blazers added two more in the third —- first Jermaine Loewen with the second shorthanded goal of the night, and then Connor Zary rounded out the scoring and his hat trick on the power play.

Loewen tacked on two assists to his 21st goal of the season.

The 6-1 win snaps a three game losing streak and puts the Blazers within a point of Seattle for the second wild card.

The next two games are against the Tri-City Americans — in Tri-Cities on Friday and then back home Monday to host the Americans in a Family Day matinee at 2 p.m.
