100 MILE HOUSE — The Interior Health Authority is confirming a second case of measles has been found in 100 Mile House.

In a release today (Mar. 22) IHA says the infection is connected to a previous case of measles in 100 Mile House which was confirmed on March 9, 2019.

Both of these cases are linked to outbreaks outside of B.C, not the cases on the province’s coast.

At this time, these two are the only confirmed cases of measles in the Interior Health region.

Now, IHA is following up with people who might have had contact with the infected patient to determine their immunization status, and offer them post-exposure protection if needed.

While the risk to the public is low right now, Interior Health says if you were at the following locations during these times, you may have been exposed to measles.

  • Wednesday, March 13, 2019 – Interlakes Market, 100 Mile House, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Anyone who is concerned about exposure to measles should watch for symptoms of measles, which include fever, cough, runny nose, and red and inflamed eyes.

These are followed by a rash, which starts first on the face and neck, spreads to the chest, arms and legs, and lasts for at least 3 days.

IHA recommends calling 8-1-1 or speaking with a nurse at a local public health centre if you think you may have been exposed to measles.

Interior Health adds, the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against measles is to ensure vaccinations are up to date.
