KAMLOOPS — Just a reminder if you're heading downtown.

Work is already starting on the major road project on West Victoria Street.

Crews have staked out the area, and traffic flow is severely restricted, and will likely be so for many months while the road is completely overhauled.

Work is starting on the east end of the corridor near 1st Avenue. It will take 18 months to 2 years to complete the project, which will include utility replacement and undergrounding, road reconstruction, and improved pedestrian access, lighting and landscaping. The project, which will cost $13 million, will be carried out in four stages.

Most of the construction will be carried out during the day, but there will be some night and weekend work as well.  One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Speed limit is 30 kilometers an hour.  The City's Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell, says pedestrian access and access to all businesses in the affected area will be maintained during construction.
