QUESNEL — The BC Wildfire Service is busy battling a 76-hectare fire seven kilometres northwest of Comstock Lake and about 125 kilometres northwest of Quesnel on Batnuni Road.

Fire Information Officer Erin Bull with the Cariboo Fire Centre says the fire broke out sometime Sunday though the cause is currently unknown.

"It's not an interface fire. It's about 15 kilometres away from the nearest settlement at Batnuni Lake," she told CKPG Today.

Bull says no structures have been lost and no one has been injured.

"Twenty-one firefighters are on site with more en route and some pieces of heavy equipment and a helicopter have been deployed as well."

She adds it's not at all unusual for wildfires this time of year and notes since the fire season began on April 1 there have been 17 fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre burning 91 hectares of forest.
